All Africa Game: Zambia finish 14th
DESPITE having made history with the most successful outing in the history of the All Africa Games, Zambia finished the competition in Ghana on 14th position from the 45 countries which converged in Ghana after winning four Gold Medals, five Silver Medals and six Bronze Medals.
Zambia recorded Gold through the Men's 4x400m Relay Team, Boxers Gerald Kabinda and Patrick Chinyemba and Judoka Steven Mungandu.
The five Silver Medals were scooped by the Women's 4x400m Relay Team, 400m beast Muzala Samukonga and the boxing trio of Mwengo Mwale, Paul Katema and Andrew Chilata.
Swimmer Mia Phiri and Muzala Samukonga are the only two athletes to have scooped two medals after the swimmer collected two bronze medals for Zambia while the other four Bronze Medals came from Judoka Simon Zulu, the boxing duo of Margret Tembo and Albert Ngulube and the Men's Taekwondo Team.
The Performance by the Zambian contingent impressed Minister of Sports Youth and Arts Elvis Nkandu who applauded the athletes for representing the country diligently at the games in Ghana.
Nkandu said the achievements by team Zambia serve as a shining example of what can be accomplished through dedication, discipline, and a positive mindset.
Meanwhile, Egypt were crowned winners of the All Africa Games after picking a total of 191 medals which included 102 Gold Medals, 47 Silver Medals and 42 Bronze Medals.
Negeria finished the games ranked second with a total of 122 medals while South Africa and Algeria claimed the third and fourth position after minting 105 and 114 Medals respectively.
South Africa were ranked ahead of Algeria as they collected more Gold medals, 32 compared to Algeria’s 29 Gold Medals.
Tunisia completed the top five with 87 medals while the hosts Ghana finisged sixth with 69 medals. Morocco, Kenya Ethiopia, Mauritania completed the top ten on the All Africa Medal table.
