Zambian Christian churches celebrate Palm Sunday

-

Various inter-denominations in Zambia on Sunday joined the global Christian community in celebrating Palm Sunday.

In remembrance of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the church has urged Zambians to reflect on the day and come together in unity to celebrate Palm Sunday.

In an interview with ZANIS, Saint Peters Anglican Church Evangelist Shadreck Chulu said that the day signifies the importance of remaining united even as a nation to celebrate the victories accomplished.

Evangelist Chulu added that the day is an outward symbol of Christians declaring their faith in God.

“It is very important that every Christian and denomination celebrate this remarkable day because we remember that the victory he conquered is the same victory that we declare in our lives,” Evangelist Chulu said.

Good Shepherd Parish Liturgical Committee Chairperson, Davis Mulenga encouraged people to emulate the love of Jesus Christ in order to avoid division in the country.

Mr Mulenga referred to the days of COVID-19 when the country passed through difficulties, but because of unity, managed to overcome the pandemic.

He disclosed that the parish hosted about nine churches from Kabwata, Libala and Kamwala that joined in Palm Sunday celebrations.

And Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church Minister-In-Charge Suzanne Matale stressed the importance of every Christian to remember that they come from salvation.

Also known as Passion Sunday, marks the start of Holy Week, the most sacred week of the Christian year which includes the Good Friday, re-enactment of Jesus’ crucifixion story and death, and their belief in his resurrection on Easter.
