946 receive Flying Doctors healing

- By ROGERS KALERO

THE Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) Mufumbwe Outreach team on Monday managed to attend to 362 patients from Musonwejyi and Kabipupu Rural health centres, bringing the total number of patients attended to 946 from the five facilities which the team has so far visited.

ZFDS Mufumbwe Team led Mukuka Nkole said the failure to cross the Musonwejyi River was a setback but the numbers recorded on Monday were not bad, but insisted that poor publicity had contributed to the low turnout.

Dr Nkole said he was hopeful that the team was likely to record between 1,500 and 2000 by the end of the outreach which had remained with two facilities and also a district hospital

“Yes, I can say that the failure to cross the Musonwejyi River on Sunday was a setback but I think we have recovered from the setback and today, on Monday, we have managed to attend 364 patients bringing the total number of patients attended to, to 946 from the five facilities visited so far” Dr Nkole said

On Sunday, the ZFDS Mufumbwe outreach team suffered a setback after it failed to cross the Musonwejyi River on its way to Musonwejyi rural health centre

The Team has so far been to five rural health centers, namely Kamizekenzeke, Mushima, Kabanda, Kabipupu which was serviced twice after failing to cross the Musonwejyi River and decided to attend to the Musonwejyi population at Kabipupu rural health centre

After failing to cross the Musonwejyi River, the team decided to retreat and camp at Kabipupu where those who were supposed to be seen at Musonwejyi rural health centre were encouraged to walk and receive medical and health services

Dr Nkole said, at Mushima, the outreach team attended to 201, out of which 45 were eye problems, 46 were dental problems and 110 were general problems, while at Kabanda rural health, the team recorded 180 patients, out of which 41 were eye problems, 51 general problems

The team successfully set the stage for providing quality health services in far flung and hard to reach areas of Mufumbwe district of the North Western province which include Kmizekenzeke, Kabanda, Mushima, Musonwezhyi, Kabipupu Nyansonso and Kashima

Dr Nkole said his team will strive to ensure that it attended to as many people as possible in far flung and hard to reach areas of Mufumbwe

And speaking after the team failed to cross the Musonwejyi River, Musonwejyi ward Councilor Haggai Kenya regretted the challenge which the ZFDS had faced but was quick to assure the people that plans were already under way to rehabilitate the bridge and ensure the ease passage of people between his ward and the rest of the district
