Chieftainess Waitwika launches fundraising activities for the Mutomolo ceremony
CHIEFTAINESS WAITWIKA of the Namwanga people of Nakonde District of Muchinga Province, has officially launched fundraising activities for the 2024 Mutomolo Traditional Ceremony to be held in
September.
Speaking during the event, Chieftainess Waitwika noted the need for the people to unite and get involved in the activities for the ceremony to be successful.
The traditional leader also disclosed that this year's ceremony will be held on the last Saturday of September instead of August as it is always.
She further thanked the people and other stakeholders who supported the launch of fundraising activities.
"I know we have been celebrating our ceremony in August, however, there is a slight change in the dates for this year's celebration and will take place on the last Saturday of September,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mutomolo Traditional Ceremony National Chairperson, George Sinkala, urged the residents of Nakonde to preserve the culture of the Namwanga people.
Mr Sinkala also mentioned that the traditional ceremony is gazetted legally by law hence the importance of holding the launch of the fundraising activities. "Remember that all traditional ceremonies in Zambia are formed by an act of parliament,” he said.
Nakonde District Commissioner, Marvelous Sikapizye, called on all civil servants and government agencies in the district to support the ceremony. The District Commissioner stated that this year's ceremony should be more colourful than before.
"If you don't get involved by supporting the ceremony at your personal level, the ceremony may flop,” he said.
