NOTORIOUS GANGS TERRORISING WUSAKILE

- By ROGERS KALERO

WUSAKILE ward Councillor Charles Silomba has urged residents to work with the police to identify the ring-leaders of notorious groupings which have been terrorising people.

He said the situation has enabled people to live in fear.

Mr Silomba said residents in the area must not harbour criminals, but must report them to police so that they can be arrested and face the wrath of the law for their criminal activities.

Mr Siolmba said a youth aged 16 was allegedly beaten to death by one of the groups, a situation which has made people to live in fear and seeking the help of the police.

''As Ward Councillor, am deeply concerned at the increasing crime wave in the ward especially with the report where one youth aged 16 was beaten to death by one of the groups in the area. This is sad and am urging residents not to hide or harbour these criminals, but to report them to police.

We need to work in close collaboration with the police to identify the ring-leaders of the groups which have been terrorising people in the area thereby making people to live in fear,'' Mr Silomba said.

Meanwhile, Mr Silomba has urged residents to keep their surrounding clean and desist from indiscriminate throwing of garbage to reduce chances of an outbreak diseases.

He said, while the Kitwe City Council (KCC) is trying its best to intensify garbage collection in various townships, residents should also play their role by not throwing garbage in undesignated dumping sites.

"The council has limited capacity in terms of ensuring effective garbage collection, but in its limited capacity, it tries its best. So, while the council is facing challenges in ensuring effective garbage collection because of limited capacity, the residents should also strive to keep their surrounding clean.

"Apart from keeping their surrounding clean, they should desist from throwing garbage any how because huge heaps of garbage result into outbreaks of cholera and other air and water borne diseases. It is always good to be pro-active than to be reactive. We don't want when Cholera breaks out that is when we will be wearing work suits and gumboot to clear garbage . No,'' he said.
