UPND MISLEADING ZAMBIANS ON DEBT RESTRUCTURING - KUNDA
ZAMBIA Wake Up party Leader, Howard Kunda, has accused the United Party National Development (UPND) Government of misleading people regarding the debt structuring in order to gain popularity.
Mr Kunda alleged that there has been deceit and misleading statements from Government regarding the debt issue.
He recalled in an interview that it is not long ago when President Hakainde Hichilema returned from Paris France celebrating that the deal has been achieved but later it was discovered that nothing had happened.
According to Mr Kunda, the new dawn Government has lost popularity hence they have used the debt restructuring to gain popularity.
He encouraged Government to do the right thing in order to win the trust from the people of whom he said have lost confidence in it.
He explained that from the statement of the official creditors committee, it is clear that it has not actualised the debt restructuring unlike what President Hichilema said that the deal is done and dusted.
Mr Kunda found the statement misleading because the committee was clear that the parties will only agree to the terms and conditions once they sat down for discussions.
He said people of Zambia deserve to have complete information regarding the debt restructuring deal not propaganda.
“The issue to do with popularity of Government does not mean that you always want to mislead the people, they need to do the right thing for them to build confidence in the people but zero in the issue of debt restructuring.
“From my understanding of the Official Creditors Committee it is very clear that it has not been actualized like what the president has said that it has been done and dusted. The statement is misleading because the creditors have said only when the conditions are made,” he said.
