ATTACK ON MOBILE MONEY ATTENDANTS IRKS LUANSHYA DC
Police in Luanshya district on the Copperbelt Province have intensified security measures following an aggravated robbery that left two mobile money attendants injured, Luanshya District Commissioner, Oncemore Ng’onomo has disclosed.
The move comes after unknown criminals staged an armed robbery along Datura Avenue, attacking two mobile money attendants and fled with cash estimated at K250, 000.
Agnes Bwalya, 35, of Mikomfwa Township and Peter Daka, 24 of House number 131 Buntungwa Road both of Luanshya sustained gunshot injuries on the left shin and foot respectively.
And Luanshya District Commissioner Oncemore Ngonomo has assured the residents of intensified security measures including patrols to ensure safety when conducting business and for the public.
Mr. Ngonomo, who described the occurance as unfortunate said that the incident is suspected to be an orchestrated move by people familiar with the operations of the attendants.
He however added that the security situation in the district remains intact and that the security team was working tirelessly to bring the culprits to book.
Meanwhile Luanshya District Business Association (DBA), has condemned the shooting incidents as it borders on the safety of conducting business in the central business district.
Association Chairperson, Justine Kalukang’u described the situation as disheartening and that it may discourage mobile money operators providing services to the community.
M r . Kalukang’u has advised mobile money service providers to avoid working in the night and that they should avoid isolated places to ensure their safety.
He has since appealed to the Zambia Police to continue the manhunt for the assailants who are still on the run.
The two victims are still admitted to Roan general hospital and their condition is described as stable.
The shooting incident happened on Thursday, March 28, 2024 around 20:15 hours when the mobile money attendants were approaching their car after closing their business.
