KABUSWE RUBBISHES CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS
….as he says the lies are intended to dent his image
MINISTER of Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe has rubbished allegations against him of engaging in corruption in the mines by grabbing contracts given to local contractors.
The Zambia Whistle Blower alleged that according to sources within the mining sector, Mr Kabuswe is using his position to grab contracts from other contractors and giving them to a company called JDCON Resources in which his young brother, Mutale Kabuswe, is a shareholder.
“What is happening is that there is a company that was registered in 2016 called JDCON Resources that was originally owned by Peter Milomo, a Zambian and Jean Paul Mugenzi, an American.
This company has had no serious footprint as a contractor in the mines. After UPND came into power, Peter Milomo approached the Mines Minister to become a shareholder in the company so that they can have an advantage in procuring contracts.
Mr. Kabuswe suggested that the young brother becomes a proxy for him. On December 16. 2021, Articles of association were amended and Mutale Kabuswe the young brother was included as a shareholder,” part of the statement said.
But in an interview yesterday, Mr Kabuswe wondered why people could only think of denting his image because the issue does not exist.
The minister said those accusing him of engaging in corruption must provide proof of any contract which he grabbed.
“First, this is a fake old story. Second, this is a very uncollaborative story, does it have any contract which this company has? Or any proof of a contract which I grabbed?
Further, all my brothers are businessmen and my being minister doesn’t stop any of them from doing business as long as it’s above board, So, just ignore such nonsense,” Mr Kabuswe said.
He said “Indeed they are falsehoods, this is pure rubbish.”
