LUSAKA CITY COUNCIL RAKES K105 M IN REVENUE

THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) has made a remarkable collection of over K105 million for the first quarter of 2024.

This impressive figure represents a significan­t growth from the previous year's first quarter, where approximat­ely K83.8 million was collected.

And LCC Public Relations Unit said in a statement that the current revenue exceeds the past record by more than K21.9 million, setting a new milestone in the council's financial history.

Acting Town Clerk, Eng. Liftery Ndaba, credits the financial surge to the government's efforts in fostering a business-friendly environmen­t and the council's innovative and proactive approaches to revenue collection.

“Among the strategies implemente­d by the Local Authority is the execution of targeted media campaigns, which have significan­tly raised public awareness regarding the importance of tax compliance and its direct influence on the city’s developmen­t,’’ he said.

Mr. Ndaba highlighte­d the LCC's strategic communicat­ions with taxpayers through telephone as a key factor in promoting timely payments and promptly addressing any concerns.

He said the City Council has also taken necessary actions, including deploying bailiffs, to recover outstandin­g debts.

"Our dedicated zone teams have worked relentless­ly with the community to ensure compliance through active engagement. Moreover, the council has utilized technology to dispatch bulk SMS reminders to taxpayers, emphasizin­g their civic responsibi­lities," said Ndaba.

He revealed the Local Authority's determinat­ion to achieve an ambitious revenue target of over K732 million for the fiscal year 2024, as the municipali­ty aspires for ongoing growth and prosperity for the City of Lusaka.

"We extend our sincere thanks to the residents and businesses of Lusaka for their enhanced tax compliance and cooperatio­n, as these contributi­ons from the bedrock of our city’s developmen­t," he said.

Mr. Ndaba has therefore, called upon businesses that have not yet met their tax obligation­s to act swiftly to avoid penalties.

"As we progress, we look forward to the continued dedication of the business community in fulfilling their financial duties, as your partnershi­p is vital to the LCC and the flourishin­g future of our cherished city."

He has also reaffirmed the Local Authority's commitment to reaching its revenue collection goals through strategic initiative­s and meticulous implementa­tion
