I am in politics to serve Zambia, says Muhabi

- By NATION REPORTER

MUHABI Lungu says he did not join politics to earn a living but to serve mother Zambia.

Mr Lungu said he did not join politics to make a living out of it because he was able to survive outside politics.

He said all his life he had been a technocrat and this was his first calling in politics.

Mr Lungu said God gave him and his family opportunities and so much was required of him.

“I come from a family which has been in many ways favoured by God. My grandfather was a civil servant in the British colonial government for more than 20 years. He worked in Mazabuka, Mongu and his last posting was in Botswana as part of the British civil service and when he retired in 1964,” he said.

“By God’s grace, I found myself being raised in New York, Canada, England et cetera. Because of the special circumstances of everything, I have travelled the whole world. And when I look at my life, I say this cannot be only for me. All these things have happened to me not because I am a genius or I am great. It is just out of circumstance and so for me, it has been, ‘what can I do to give back to my community.

Mr Lungu said it was the reason he joined politics so that he could contribute to the development of the country.

He said he wanted to make a difference in Zambian politics albeit he was not looking for power or a position.

Mr Lungu is part of a new grouping called Third Force which want to bring sanity to Zambian politics.

He said while power or a position gave one influence, it was not his ultimate goal to seek the presidency of the Republic of Zambia.
