FAZ diversify revenue lines by investing in own Sports Brand dubbed ‘KoPa’ to be unleashed at CHAN in Morocco

-

After a series of futile attempts to secure a permanent sports brand for the Zambia National Soccer team, the Football Association of Zambia too business decision to invest in its own brand dubbed KoPa. This brand is aligned to the ‘copper bullet’ name the Chipolopolo are called resonating with Zambia’s major export copper. The business decision was made October, 2017, according to a statement by FAZ Communication Manager, Desmond Katongo.

On current FAZ President - Andrew Kamanga’s clock, the national soccer team has attempted to brand the copper bullets with Kappa and Mafro kit.

The idea to invest in an independent ‘home made’ sports brand, wholly owned by FAZ, is in alignment with FAZs strategic objective of widening its revenue generation pool and also gives the association full control of the value chain.

The brand, named KoPa, represents the best of Zambian football and is a true reflection of all the positive attributes in the Zambian game.

Unveiling of the new kit will be at the CHAN tournament in Morocco after which distribution of replica jerseys will begin shortly after at affordable pricing to the public too, Mr. Katongo said.

The growth opportunities for the brand stretch beyond Zambia’s borders and an international variant of the brand will be available to clients in overseas markets.

FAZ would like to also take this opportunity to caution members of the general public to desist from purchasing counterfeit jerseys that are currently flooding the market.

Mr. Katongo, did not state how much money the association has invested in a seemingly new project never tested by the Executive before.

Zambia opens its Group B account on January 14 against Uganda with a tie against Ivory Coast coming four days later.

The Chipolopolo will conclude its group matches on January 22 against Namibia.

Zambia has been at the CHAN twice with a third place finish in 2009 while their last appearance in 2016 ended with a quarterfinal finish.
