Sikazwe’s appointment as Technical Director could be a misfit

The Football Association of Zambia – FAZ in a press release announced the appointment of FIFA referee Janny Sikazwe as Technical Director. The same release confirmed appointed of Adrian Kashala as General Secretary.

In line with article 38 (3) of the Football Association of Zambia(FAZ), the FAZ president has proposed and the FAZ Executive Members have accepted under clause 38(4) the appointment of Mr. Adrian Kashala as FAZ General Secretary with effect from 1st September 2018. The FAZ Executive Members have further appointed FIFA Referee, Mr. Janny Sikazwe as FAZ Technical Director Subject to secondment by his employers.

However, this appointment for the top Zambian referee, Janny has been cited as one that would be career limiting especially that he has been in the global lime light. Other schools of thought felt Janny should not take up the role but aim to improve refereeing in Zambia which leaves much to be desired. They have cited the need for Janny to settle for a role that will allow him to specialize in refereeing. Janny has flown the Zambian flag high at the world cup despite the Southern African nation not qualifying for the prestigious tournament.

It is yet to be determined whether Janny will accept the appointment or not.
