Majalisa, Jeys, Sulu and ‘VG’ to raise $50k for library
SOUTH Africa’s Patricia Majalisa alongside locals Jeys Marabini, Sulumani Chimbetu and gospel musicians Velaphi “VG” Gumbo have been roped in by the Bulawayo Public Library Braille department to raise $50,000 towards its refurbishment.
Before the Friday show there will be a fundraising dinner at the Small City Hall from 6PM to 8PM. Tickets for a table of 10 have been pegged at $200 for corporates, for couples it will cost $15 and individuals $20. Advance tickets are available at the Bulawayo Public Library. For those who want to attend the music concert tickets will cost $5 at the door.
The night will have a dose of gospel music as VG, Kira and up and coming musician Nyasha Kadaka will belt out tunes. This will be before Jeys, Sulu and Majalisa take over later on in the night.
South Africa’s disco queen, Majalisa, said she was honoured to be a part of helping raise funds for the visually impaired.
“I’m doing this show for free so that I help people who are less privileged. I’ll be in Zimbabwe on Thursday to meet up with the organisers and hopefully on Friday people will come in their numbers to help raise the funds that they desperately need,” said Majalisa.
Jeys said he was eager to help the less privileged to have the same opportunities like anyone else.
“They asked us to help them with holding the show and I obliged. This is very important because this money will help in furthering the education of the visually impaired as this is their constitutional right,” said Jeys. The Braille Library co-ordinator Killion Dube said he feared the section could be
closed if resources are not sourced soon. “We want to try to raise the funds to buy books and an embosser for our visually impaired learners in the city. The books are out of date hence impeding on their education and I fear that maybe it (the library) will be closed one day. We hope people can come and help us in this worthy cause,” said Dube. If they manage to raise the $50,000, he said, they can buy a Braille embosser, computers and Brai l le paper boxes amongst other items for the library. -@bonganinkunzi
