Man killed try­ing to res­cue lover

A MAN from Bu­l­awayo has been ar­rested for al­legedly killing a man who was as­sault­ing his girl­friend.

Moses Chi­man­isa (25) al­legedly re­sponded to a dis­tress call from Abi­gail Ndlovu, say­ing she was be­ing at­tacked by Tapela Ndebele. Chi­man­isa al­legedly armed him­self with a bot­tle and a knife, rushed to Masiyepham­bili Drive near New Loben­gula sub­urb where he fa­tally stabbed Ndebele.

Yes­ter­day, he ap­peared be­fore West­ern Com­mon­age Mag­is­trate Miss Tancy Dube fac­ing a mur­der charge.

The mag­is­trate did not ask Chi­man­isa to plead and re­manded him in cus­tody to Au­gust 17.

Pros­e­cut­ing, Ms Ma­gret Takawira told the court that on Sun­day, Chi­man­isa was called by his girl­friend who said she needed to be res­cued from Ndebele.

“Ac­cused got to the scene and tried to as­sault the now de­ceased with a bot­tle. De­ceased was in the com­pany of three friends. The bot­tle was snatched from him by one of the de­ceased’s friends. He then pulled out a knife and stabbed Ndebele once on the left side of the chest. He pulled out the knife and threw it away be­fore he fled from the scene,” she said.

Ms Takawira said in­ves­ti­gat­ing of­fi­cers found Chi­man­isa in pos­ses­sion of a blood stained T-shirt.

She said po­lice es­tab­lished that the knife used to stab Ndebele be­longed to Chi­man­isa.
