CHIEF Nekatambe has come to the rescue of Zifa Matabeleland North Division Two side Hot Spurs Leopards FC from Dete, which has been facing various challenges among them sporting kit, by donating a full set of soccer kit valued at $600.

Presenting the donation at Raylton Sports club in Dete recently, Chief Nekatambe said he was a passionate supporter of sports and believed that it is able to develop not only individuals but communities when given the proper support.

“This gesture is part of my effort and ambition to promote sport particularly soccer in my area. Gone are the days when we looked to Hwange FC as the only team that will represent the district in the top flight league but we have talent here as well that simply needs to be harnessed,” said Chief Nekatambe.

He called on other stakeholders to contribute towards promotion of rural sport.

“There is a lot of untapped talent in the rural communities but what is lacking is exposure. I call upon stakeholders to play a role in assisting government in promoting sport in rural communities. The development of sport will ensure employment creation besides a healthy nation,” the Chief said.

He appealed for discipline amongst players to avoid attracting unnecessary negative attention and added that he was in the process of organising an awards gala to celebrate and promote soccer in the district.

Chief Nekatambe has been playing an instrumental role in assisting the team with fuel to travel for their fixtures within the province.

The team chairman, Jobe Ngwenya, said the donation had come at an opportune time as they only had one uniform.
