BULAWAYO, Saturday, September 29, 1991 — The headmaster of Nkulumane High School, Cde Ashton Mguni, has appealed to Government to assist his school’s Parents Teachers’ Association in its efforts to build a laboratory and an administration block.

Cde Mguni was speaking at the school’s open day yesterday. He said the PTA also needed assistance in providing chairs.

The PTA had hoped that the laboratory would be commissioned this year but this had not been possible because the parents could not raise more than $190 000 required to build and equip the laboratory. The parents have raised only $60 000 so far, said Cde Mguni.

‘’I therefore, on behalf of the PTA, appeal to the Ministries of Education and Culture and National Housing and Public Construction to help in the efforts to raise funds for the building of the laboratory and an administration block and also to acquire about 120 chairs for students,’’ said Cde Mguni.

The headmaster said thieves had stolen property worth more than $10 000 from the school since the beginning of the year.

The guest of honour at the open day was the Member of Parliament for Nkulumane, who is also the deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Cde Dumiso Dabengwa.

Cde Dabengwa urged the students to work hard so that they could qualify for admission to university.

He donated a cheque for $200 to the PTA.
