- Lovemore Zigara in Gweru

FORMER Zimbabwe sprinter Lloyd Zvasiya will conduct a strength and conditioning clinic in Zvishavane from October 29-30.

The United Kingdombased Zvasiya is now an international instructor and a certified strength and conditioning coach accredited by the UK Sports Association in London, which specialises in sport nutrition and sport psychology.

He said the course is designed for all coaches in the different sporting disciplines, gym instructors, athletes, medics and physical education teachers.

“Through my company Zvasi0705 Fitness First I will be holding a strength and fitness clinic in Zvishavane from October 29-30.

‘‘ The course is designed for coaches in the different sporting disciplines be it football, athletics, rugby or netball, among others,” Zvasiya said.

“The clinic will share specific exercises, stretches and training guidelines that will help athletes continue to enjoy sport with fewer orthopaedic interruptions.

“It helps athletes young and old to improve performance, increase athletic longevity and minimises the risk of acute and overuse injuries.” He said the workshop will provide relevant science-based information to professionals and individuals so that athletes learn to improve their fitness and performance in sport. It will also help participants gain a better understanding of their respective sport for them to perform at a higher level, as well as to arm them with knowledge of a safe and effective exercise programme. Participation fees have been pegged at $100. Meanwhile, a German expert would be coming to the country at the end of November at the invitation of the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) to conduct athletics workshops at Belvedere Teacher’s Training College. NAAZ secretary general Cynthia Phiri said the expert, whom she did not name, would conduct three courses that begin on November 25. Participants will be required to fork out $50 for each course. “Three programmes are key in athletics development in schools - these are Talent Identification and Development (TID), Kids Athletics (KA), which is a component in the new curriculum syllabus, and High Level Seminar in Jumps. This is an opportunity to expose our athletics teachers to the best world trends,” said Phiri. TID will run from November 25-27, while KA will be held from November 29 to December 1 and the High Level Seminar Jumps from December 6-8 — @ lavuzigara1.
