Corruption scaring away investors

-

EDITOR — Corruption is eating away at the nation like a termite. Investors the world over consider the level of corruption in an economy in making decisions to set up shop in a country.

In Zimbabwe corruption have proved to be one of the major factors that scare away efficient and potential investors.

Prominent elite citizens have been associated with shady deals and none of those accused has solidly proved their tales.

Recently, the media had been awash with stories alleging that top Government officials and parastatal bosses had looted thousands or millions of dollars for their personal gain.

Let not any individual protect these bad apples in our economy, despite their station, suffering Zimbabweans will heave a sigh of relief if those who abuse taxpayers funds are brought to book.

In the same vein, the principle of innocent until proven guilty should be allowed to play out. As a concerned citizen of this country I feel it is high time wheels of justice start turning in all the cases of corruption. Although public opinion is not a court of law, their sentiments of roundly condemning acts of corruption calls for action from the responsible stakeholders.

It is commendable to note that the constitutionally formed body — Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission — have been removed from the Ministry of Home Affairs to The Office of the President and Cabinet.

This will give ZACC strength and respectability as said by VP Mnangagwa.

The media on its part is doing one of its prime functions to inform.

That watchdog function should continue to prevail in order to expose those who think they are above the law due to their big positions.

Let’s not these guys try to prove their innocence in the media whilist we have right platforms where they ca defend their cases. Thumbs up to the Executive of this country for declaring zero tolerance against corrupion. Gareth Nkomo, Bulawayo.
