‘Highlanders need a striker’

- Raymond Jaravaza

HIGHLANDERS need a good striker to complement young Prince Dube if the team is to seriously compete for honours in the 2017 Premier Soccer League.

Coach Erol Akbay reckons expecting Dube to score in every match piles unnecessary pressure on the youngster, as he still needs at least another season to turn into a complete and lethal striker.

“Leaving out Prince from the team because he has gone for two or three matches without scoring will only have a negative impact on his confidence, so we need another good striker to complement him. He is still a young player who is hungry for goals; he wants to play in every match, but he needs another season to be a very good striker,” said Akbay.

Asked if he would bring in new players for next season, Akbay said he would beef up the team with a couple of players, but is also cognisant of the club’s financial constraints.

“Like any other coach, I would want to bring in a few more good players, but we all know the club does not have the money to buy new players,” he said.

Highlanders will take advantage of the league break due to the Warriors’ friendly match against Zambia as well as the Chibuku Super Cup final between Ngezi Platinum Stars and FC Platinum to give their players some time off.

Ngezi Platinum meet FC Platinum at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro tomorrow, while the international friendly will be played at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on the same day.

“We have played every week since the beginning of the season, so we will use the break to rest the players ahead of the FC Platinum (league) match. It’s important for us to win the two remaining matches and see what happens with CAPS United.”

Bosso travel to Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane in Week 29 of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League before wrapping up the season with a home tie against Hwange at Barbourfields Stadium.
