- Walter Mswazie Masvingo Correspondent

A CHIREDZI man allegedly killed his wife after accusing her of infidelity.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula said the man disappeared after the murder on Tuesday at around 11PM. She identified the deceased as Chipo Mudyanembwa (30) of Village C, Masapasi in Mkwasine.

“We have received a report of murder from Chiredzi where a man assaulted his wife to death after accusing her of engaging in extramarital relationships with other men. The suspect fled the scene after committing the crime. He is still at large and a manhunt has been launched,” said Insp Mazula.

She said Taurai Zihwowa (35) arrived from a beer drink and found Mudyanembwa home. Before having supper, Zihwowa allegedly started accusing the late Mudyanembwa of infidelity.

“Mudyanembwa denied the allegations but Zihwowa would not listen. A dispute arose. Zihwowa picked a one metre-long log and assaulted Mudyanembwa all over the body leaving her unconscious,” Insp Mazula said.

She said when Zihwowa realised that his wife was unconscious he rushed to alert a neighbour, Mr Big Chipiro (42).

Insp Mazula said Zihwowa told Mr Chipiro that his wife had died and asked for water to administer first aid.

She said Zihwowa failed to resuscitate his wife and dragged the body from his homestead for about 800 metres and dumped it in the bush before fleeing.

On Wednesday morning at around 8AM, Mr Chipiro went to Zihwowa’s homestead to check on the condition of Mudyanembwa but found the place deserted.

On his way back, he saw marks indicating something had been dragged along a path that led into a bush.

“He followed the marks and stumbled on Mudyanembwa’s body,” Insp Mazula said.— @walterbmswazie2.
