JOHANNESBURG — Kaizer Chiefs are considering suing Itumeleng Khune for signing an endorsement deal without obtaining permission from the club, according to reports.

Khune became one of South Africa’s highest paid players when he signed a new deal with the Glamour Boys in July 2015, and it seems his current contract prohibits him from signing with new personal sponsors without authorisation.

According to Sunday World, the 29-year-old is facing legal action from the club after inking a deal with Danup yoghurt. Khune has been actively endorsing the product on his official social media accounts.

“Khune basically breached contract of employment with Chiefs by signing an endorsement deal without the authorisation of the club,” said an anonymous source as quoted by the publication.

“He is the property of the club and he can’t go around endorsing products that are not aligned with the club, without the blessings of the club.”

The club’s management is further angered with Khune as he is pictured with teammates, Keagan Buchanan and George Maluleka, at one of the products promotional events.

Spokesperson of Danone, Sandra Dorville, declined to inform any further details of the current deal they have with the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

“Khune and Danone have signed a confidential agreement that doesn’t allow us to share the content of this agreement,” she said.

e goalkeeper also signed for Durbanbased Newton Sports Agency last month as he set his sights on life after football despite only being in his 20s.

“I like the way Newton Agency does business and knew they would be a good match for me in the next stage of my career,” the Amakhosi star said.

Meanwhile, Khune will be in action this weekend for Bafana Bafana as Shakes Mashaba’s charges look to claim maximum points against Senegal in their 2018 Soccer World Cup qualifier.

Bafana and Senegal clash on Saturday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in a Group D encounter.

Kick-off is at 15:00.— Supersport.
