Man rapes, infects daughter with HIV

- Wynne Zanamwe Midlands Reporter

A Gweru man has been arrested for allegedly raping and infecting his 17-year-old step daughter with HIV.

The man (33) allegedly forced his step-daughter to wash his privates after raping her.

The accused, who resides in Mtapa suburb, Gweru cannot be named for ethical reasons.

He appeared before magistrate Mr Solomon Jenya facing rape charges.

The man pleaded not guilty and the magistrate remanded him in custody to tomorrow.

Prosecuting, Mr Lloyd Mavhiza told the court that on October 26 last year at around 10PM, the complainant was coming from church with her friends when she met the accused. “The accused asked the complainant where she was coming from and he was told that she was coming from church by the complainant. The accused dragged the complainant towards a railway line that is near Gafa ground and asked her what punishment she required.

“The complainant told the accused that she wanted to go home but the accused grabbed her and started to fondle her breasts and buttocks.

“The accused person removed the complainant’s skirt and pants before he forced her to lie down and raped her once,” said Mr Mavhiza.

The man, the court heard, asked his victim to wash his manhood but she refused. He promised not to punish her if she did not tell anyone about the matter.

The matter came to light when the man threatened to assault the complainant contrary to the promise he had made to her saying he would not assault her.

“The complainant told her mother about the matter. She accompanied the complainant to make a formal report at the police station.

“The complainant was sent to Gweru General Hospital for a medical examination and the complainant tested positive to HIV,” said Mr Mavhiza. —@wynnezane.
