Interim Byo Chess League committee appointed

- Allen Khumalo Sports Reporter

THE Bulawayo Chess Association (BCA) has appointed an interim Bulawayo Chess League (BCL) committee to serve from 20172018.

The new BCL committee comprises six members led by new chairman Tarciso Chikandi. His role will be to oversee all systems in the league and attend to complaints or queries concerning the league.

Khumbulani Chirwa will oversee the league’s finances, Patrice Sibanda is the new public relations officer, while Dalithemba Ndlovu is the fixtures secretary and Phakamani Sithole is responsible for logistics, which includes securing venues for all games and ensuring all necessary equipment is available for each competition.

Thabang Moyo is responsible for running tournaments, explain and administer league rules in every competition.

Sibanda said BCA is on the verge of reviving club tournaments, hence the appointment of the new committee to oversee the move.

“This is an interim arrangement by the BCA to oversee the BCL.

“This new executive will be dealing with the league only.

“Club competitions or league games were not taken seriously as there was no executive assigned to do that, so by this move we are trying to promote the BCL and have a league that runs from the beginning of the year to the end,” said Sibanda.

Meanwhile, Nkulumane Chess Club won the BCA Men’s Club tournament held at Ross Camp’s Golden Lion Mess on Saturday.

Nkulumane were crowned champions after amassing a total of five points followed by ZRP Bulawayo Chess A with four points. Praetorians Chess Club came third with 2.5 points, while ZRP Bulawayo Chess B and Lupane State University were fourth and fifth respectively with 0.5 points each.

In the women’s category, ZRP Bulawayo won the competition with 3.5 points, while their only competitor, LSU amassed 2.5 points. — @khumzallen
