Celebrating diversity through unity in Christ

-

Galatians 3 vs 28

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Have you ever noticed the differences that characterise the human race: height, weight, colour, shape etc? We are all different, even our aspirations, desires and preferences are different.

What is common though is that we all have fears, desires, tastes, likes, dislikes and a general desire to love and be loved. Regardless of our diversity, we were all created to all have these emotions.

As I observed a group of people walking together the other day, what struck me is the fact that despite their diversity, they seemed to be united through their happiness, warmth and the cheer they shared between them as they talked and laughed.

We were all created bright, beautiful and wonderful. Sometimes during the course of life we forget that these differences should not push us away from each other but rather they should make us realise the mastery of creation that our maker possesses. That should reaffirm what an amazing God we serve.

It is important to remember that under our varied cultural heritage, personal preferences, political views and economic backgrounds, we all share the oneness of being children of God. Instead of using our diversity as a source of conflict we should view it as our Creator intended, a meeting pot of diversity all put together to celebrate life.

Thank the Lord for the gift that is life and how amazing it is. Be blessed.
