Blackrock go tops in Mat North

A DETERMINED Blackrock FC shot to the top of the Zifa Matabelela­nd North Division 2A league table after chalking up a hard-fought 2-1 away win against Shumba Stars at Dampa Secondary School at Cross Dete on Saturday.

Shumba Stars had turned the venue into a dreaded zone for visiting teams, but Blackrock had other ideas courtesy of goals by former Premiershi­p outfit Flame Lilly striker Brighton Ndou and Timothy Chuma. Stars replied through striker Alexander Phiri.

Another new Dete team Iwisa Sparrows stayed second on the log with a crucial 2-1 victory over Ingagula at Ngotsheni ground, with Phikani Ngozo and Thabiso Ndlela grabbing their goals, and Fanuel Ndlovu getting Ingagula’s consolatio­n.

Erstwhile log leaders Hotspurs Leopards failed to overcome struggling Flying Elephants and were held to a shock 1-1 stalemate at Raylton ground.

At Lukosi ground, fans were treated to a five-goal thriller as Lukosi Pirates edged visiting Amagagasi Under-19 3-2. Lukosi’s goals came from Moses Khumalo (brace) and Ernest Ncube, while Amagagasi’s Golden Sakara grabbed a brace.

An entertaini­ng Hwange derby at Lwendulu Old Ground pitting Nengasha Stars against OT Lions Academy ended in a 1-1 draw.

At Chinotimba ground, Trumus Warriors won 2-1 in a thrilling local derby against Corinthian­s, with Hubert Ncube and Clyvine Sibanda scoring for Warriors, while George Beza was on target for Corinthian­s.

On Sunday, Classic Luyando were thumped 1-3 by army team Moto Moto. Ernest Gwitima, Needed Moyo and Gift Sibanda were on target for the soldiers, while Luyando’s face-saver came from Khonzani Nkomo. Hwange Reserves edged Baobab Rovers 1-0 at the Colliery Stadium thanks to Nyasha Dube’s goal.
