BULAWAYO, Wednesday, May 31, 1967 — There will be no second high school for Coloureds in Bulawayo, but the Ministry of Education is to assist schoolchildren in getting to the present school by bus.

is was revealed by Mr H E Pegg, Regional Education Officer, in Bulawayo last night.

Speaking at Founders High School Speech Night, held in the Large City Hall, Mr Pegg said the Ministry felt that the secondary school enrolment had almost reached its peak for the time being and that there was no need to build a second Coloureds’ high school in Bulawayo.

“Founders High School,” he said, “has an enrolment of 1 170. I think it will rise to 1 220 or thereabouts but in the next seven years will not pass that figure.”

Mr Pegg said that as building plans for Founders would bring accommodation to about 1 220 there was no need for another high school.

The Ministry of Education had set aside money to assist children living a long way from Founders with their bus fares. “From the beginning of July,” he said, “some assistance will be given to pupils living in Trenance and Forestvale.”

Mr Pegg said the Ministry was also considering a special bus for children living in Rangemore.

The headmaster of Founders, Mr G C Solomons said in his report that the success of a school was hampered by children who were rude, uncooperative, lazy, irresponsible and disrespectful to elders including teachers, due to lack of proper training at home.
