Calm your anxious mind

-

Philippians 4 vs 6 - 7

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.”

Sometime ago I had a conversation with some of my colleagues on what constitutes stress. Anxiety seems to play a major part in destabilising one’s emotional makeup, thereby causing untold misery on your system.

This inability to keep still can throw you into a state of fear and frenzy and, as a result of that, the future then appears to be so overwhelming.

When I was younger, I remember that I used to hate Sunday nights because they would usher in Monday and all the problems that came with a new week. This meant that I had to revisit all the things that had been put on pause over the weekend that needed to be done, and this disturbed my peace.

We all have things that we just cannot bear and as they draw closer, we tend to be anxious, nervous and unhappy. Stress sets in when we start to live ahead of all the various due dates in our life.

We start to envisage all the worst case scenarios concerning the impending future, we imagine that we are going to fail or lose out and how it will affect our lives as we know them.

Of all these different emotions that we go through, anxiety seems to be the one emotion that never goes away, we are always anxious about different things, but it is an unnecessary emotion.

The Lord always goes ahead of us, even though sometimes things go in the opposite direction and we lose out on the things we desire in the timeframe we have set and envisaged. The Lord will always be there to redirect our steps, should we call upon Him and trust Him.

Are you heavy laden because you are worried about what may happen in the future? Are you depressed and stressed because you are living in the future instead of enjoying the gift of today as you ought to? Leave tomorrow’s problems to tomorrow and trust the Lord for today’s provision.

Be blessed.
