Miss Zim donates half prize money to charity
MISS World Zimbabwe queen Chiedza Mhosva has received her $20 000 prize money and she has donated $10 000 of the money to her Beauty with a Purpose project, a cancer a w a r e n e s s project which targets the Doma people in Kanyemba under Chief Chapota. Mhosva made the generous pledge during a prize giving ceremony held at the Miss Zimbabwe Trus t offices in Highlands on Wednesday.
The Miss World Zimbabwe’s main prize sponsored by Big Time Strategic Group also includes a car.
Mhosva will also enjoy $1 000 local holiday allowance courtesy of Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) and she will also be attached to the Big Time Strategic Group for a year with a salary and full benefits.
In addition Mhosva received a business class air ticket to travel to China for the Miss World pageant to be held on November 18 and a wardrobe for the Miss World courtesy of Lachelle and prominent designer Spero Villioti will do her garment for the finals.
Mhosva said the generous donation was because winning the competition has changed her life and she wanted to also change other people’s lives.
“You have changed my life; I wish to change somebody’s life as well. You’ve taught me that giving is part of the roles of being a queen, so here today, please allow me to present to the trust my pledge of $10 000 towards my project,” said Mhosva.
During the ceremony it was revealed that Miss Personality Tariro Zvizhinji will join the Queen at the Big Time Strategic Group in addition to her $5 000 prize money. First Princess Evelyn Njelele was presented with her $10 000 prize money, a holiday as well as an attachment at the ZTA for a year.
Kundai Somerai who was the second princess also walked away with $5 000 and will also be attached at the ZTA.
All the finalists were given $1 000 for participating at this years’ pageant The Beauty with a Purpose project is the most important at the Miss World finals as it constitutes more than 50 percent of the total marks. yet we have been representing our Country for years and not been given any credit or roles. I guess they don’t see that we are also part of tourism and putting a good word out. I now understand why some artists left to find greener pastures.”
Fans showed their support for DJ Stavo, while others encouraged him not to give up.
Damaris Grace Batana said: “We recognise you DJ Stavo!! We see how you represent us and we appreciate. We are behind you!! Mzembi should recognise.”
Others, like Sphen Mubwanda supported DJ Stavo’s view that artistes are leaving the country to seek greener pastures because of lack of recognition.
“Now you see it’s not by chance our young people wanna leave. The leaders with their actions and words clearly do not support brand Zimbabwe.”
