- Ricky Zililo Senior Sports Reporter

WITH Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches postponed, focus will be on the Southern Region Division One Soccer League whose second half of the season resumes today.

Leaders and championship favourites Bulawayo Chiefs are on a bye, presenting second placed ZPC Hwange who have amassed 24 points from 12 games a chance to close the gap to 10 points.

Chiefs are at the top with 37 points from 13 matches.

ZPC Hwange take on Indlovu Iyanyathela at HQ One Brigade in Bulawayo hoping to complete a double against the army side who they beat 4-0 on July 22 before the league’s midseason break.

A brace by Keith Mavinga as goals from Peter Ghani and Morgen Nyoni fired the electricity generators into maximum points.

ZPC Hwange, the league’s perennial campaigners are the only side that can put a strong title challenge and a victory against Indlovu Iyanyathela who are on position six with 18 points, 19 behind leaders Chiefs can set them to a perfect second half start.

Another potentially explosive encounter will be played at White City Stadium where Zim Leopards will be aiming at completing a double over pre-season title favourites ZRP Bulawayo. as well

The police side lost the first leg 2-1, with Leopards getting their goals from Kudzai Chipudza and Tambudzai Ngulube while the police side got their consolation from Alois Gwanzura.

The two sides are tied on 17 points, with the latter a place above the former on position seven because of a superior goal difference.

Leopards beefed their squad during the midseason break and some of the new signings that they might parade today include midfield duo of Bukhosi Mafu and Coray-Eli Black, former Tsholotsho FC striker Tawanda Zinaka as well as defender Tervin Mabhena.
