A 25-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man allegedly viciously stabbed another man on the stomach, leaving his intestines protruding at a sports bar in Pumula suburb, .

Mengezi Dube is alleged to have stabbed Mr Wonder Jawa, who is admitted at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), after a misunderstanding erupted as they were drinking at Eyethu Sports Bar last Sunday.

Dube appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Lungile Ncube charged with attempted murder.

He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody to September 13.

In a warned and cautioned statement, Mr Jawa said Dube was with two friends and they picked a fight, accusing Mr Jawa and his friend Mr Mongameli Dlamini of pick pocketing.

He said the three men approached them outside the bar and accused them of being thieves.

Mr Jawa said he was forced to intervene when the trio assaulted his friend. “Dube became more violent and stabbed me on the stomach,” he said.

Prosecuting, Ms Margret Takawira said Dube stabbed Mr Jawa once on the stomach with a knife.

“On August 27 at around 11PM and at Eyethu Sports Bar, the accused attempted to kill the complainant by stabbing him on the stomach leaving his intestines protruding,” said Ms Takawira.

Ms Takawira said Mr Jawa was taken to UBH, where he is still admitted. The court heard that a medical report will be produced in court as evidence.—@NyarieBakie
