Natural resources are a blessing

-

EDITOR — Availability of natural resources in the country is enough to improve our lives. The announcement of a new mine opening in Beitbridge is great news as it will result in a lot of economic opportunities for our people.

Coal is vital in the generation of electricity. Zimbabwe needs more sources of power as every sector’s functionality is dependent on electricity.

Our streets also need lights to ease travelling at night. A lot of pedestrians are at risk of losing their lives because of dark streets. Someone can easily attack their victim in the dark because no one will identify them.

Coal will also result in production of steel. We need to resuscitate companies that specialise in steel production so that we can fully benefit from availability of coal.

Manufacturing of cement will also be improved through this and access to fuel will be made easier.

The best thing about this new mine is that it is creating employment for the locals. It is good that the responsible company decided to make use of local labour. They would have easily gotten that from elsewhere but they decided to empower their community.

This will go a long way in eradicating social problems that are faced by many unemployed Zimbabweans. Brendon Nesango
