Mighty Warriors to name Cosafa squad

- Sikhumbuzo Moyo Senior Sports Reporter

MIGHTY Warriors coach, Sithethelelwe Sibanda, will today announce her final Cosafa Women’s Championship squad before the team travels to Bulawayo tomorrow.

A 30-member squad has been in camp at the Zifa Village in Harare for the past three weeks and Sibanda and her technical crew today have to drop five girls.

“We are naming our final squad tomorrow (today), meaning we have to drop five players from the squad. I must say morale has been magnificent,” said Sibanda yesterday.

The Mighty Warriors are in Group A alongside Zambia, Malawi and Madagascar, and get their tournament underway against Madagascar at Barbourfields Stadium on Monday afternoon. They go onto face Zambia on September 15. Zambia coach Albert Kachinga said they would particularly be keen to get something out of their clash with the Mighty Warriors.

“We have played Zimbabwe on several occasions and have lost and won some games. The chances are 50-50, but with adequate preparations and with a good mindset, we can beat them,” said Kachinga.

“These days, there are no easy games; it is a fair draw. There is no team which can underrate the other. We have to work extra hard so that we can pull through. All the teams are good for them to play at the tournament,” Kachinga told Cosafa.com.

Only the top team in each pool and the best runner-up will advance to the semi-finals.
