Police ask for help to locate missing persons
POLICE in Bulawayo are appealing for help from members of the public to locate a National University of Science and Technology (Nust) student and a pupil (13) from Njube suburb who have gone missing.
The Nust student Evans Jona (25), was last seen in Bulawayo’s central business district (CBD) last month.
“Jona was last seen by his uncle Mr Julius Nyamangodo at around 2PM on 31 August at Econet shop along Leopold Takawira and Robert Mugabe Street. He is slim built, has brown eyes, black hair and is about 1.65 metres tall,” Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said.
“Jona walks with a slight limp and has a stroke on the left side of his body. He was last seen wearing black trousers, white T-shirt and black and white spotted tennis shoes. His last known address is number 04 Glebe Court, 17th Avenue Famona.”
Inspector Simango said anyone with information regarding Jona’s whereabouts should contact the investigating officer, Constable Madondo on 0777956135 or ZRP Bulawayo Central on (09)71515 or any nearest police station.
A family from Njube suburb is looking for Lister Gora, a Form Two pupil at Josiah Tongogara High School in Emakhandeni suburb. He was last seen on August 5 when he left home their home in Njube suburb going to church in the same area.
The family reported the matter at Njube Police Station.
“We got worried and went in search of him but our search did not yield any results and we reported the matter to the police,” said his mother Mrs Melani Moyo.
She said the teenager, who is dark in complexion was last seen wearing navy trousers and a sky blue T- shirt. “I am appealing to members of the public to help me locate my son and anyone with information can contact me on 0775165640,” said Mrs Moyo.
A number of pupils have gone missing countrywide over the past few months. According to police, some went missing either on their way to or from school.
In July, national police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said school authorities should encourage pupils to move in groups on their way to or from school.
“Police would like to appeal to school authorities and members of the public to help ensure the safety of pupils under their custody. School authorities should take it upon themselves to encourage pupils to move in groups,” she said.
“It has become very unsafe for pupils to walk on their own in both rural and urban areas. Where possible parents and custodians should escort their kids on their way to school and after school.”—@PrinceNkosy102.
