HATS off to St Luke’s Hospital. I was spat on in both eyes by a cobra and in a few minutes I got blind. I was taken to St Luke’s Hospital. Dr Tshuma and a male nurse, Mr Moyo, and all the staff came to my rescue. Every hour they would come to the ward at my bed and they would ask how I was feeling. Hey that was lovely and they would say “we need to irrigate your eyes!”. Ladies and gentlemen, we have professionals around. They all would make my ward a highway, simply to check on my condition. Wonderful. I have regained my health. Hats off to Dr Tshuma and staff. Thank you. —

WE shall always remember the man’s humour and humility, the son of the soil, the late former Vice President Simon “Dr Mzee” Muzenda, now 14 years gone. He died on September 20, 2003. MHDSRIP. —

MAY I through your widely read newspaper bring to the attention of the nation the injustices being brought to us National Railways of Zimbabwe retrenchees by the NRZ Pension Fund and NRZ respectively. It is now 25 years since our retrenchment. We are failing to access our monthly pensions on time. The NRZ and the Pension Fund owe us arrears of over 12 months. It appears our being retrenched became a curse to us as other pensioners get their monthly dues on due date without any arrears being owed them. Sadly we continue to lose our members due to deaths. The latest one had to be ferried on a scotch cart from a district hospital due to lack of funds to hire a hearse. It is of great pain to us to go through this trauma while our funds are locked up. Poor children are no longer attending school. We are now dying at home as we no longer can afford to consult even the local clinics. I appeal to our Government through the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Pensions Commissioner to assist us have our arrears paid as a matter of urgency. Also can the relevant ministry force the NRZ to clear our salary arrears and retrenchment packages. How then do they expect us to embark on income generation projects? —
