Absence of L6 IsiNdebele tasks cause for concern

-

EDITOR — At the beginning of this year the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education rolled out the new curriculum in schools. Key to it is the component of Continuous Assessment (CA).

I want to draw your attention to a very sensitive matter concerning the Continous Assessment for IsiNdebele learning area at Advanced Level. About a fortnight ago Zimsec rolled out tasks and projects for the various learning areas.

However, teachers and learners in isiNdebele at Advanced Level are still in the dark as to what they are supposed to be doing as part of their coursework. I do not know if an excuse or explanation was given to the affected parties or not.

Does it mean they will be given more time or rather a grace period for them to complete these tasks? I have noted with concern how things have happened arround IsiNdebele as a language and a learning area. Just last last month there were incidents of a book being recalled after gross spelling and grammatical errors.

How long will our language be treated as the other language? Is this clear conspiracy, marginalisation and systematic containment?

I would urge Zimsec to deal decisively with the issue of outstanding continuous assessment tasks and projects. I do not want to say it is IsiNdebele alone but if ever there are other missing tasks, that should be addressed as a matter of urgency.

Zimsec should apologise, publicly, to the learners and teachers of isiNdebele for causing anxiety and possibly panic and restlessness in the schools. How do they expect teachers and learners to carry on with their daily business when all other learning areas are busy on continuous assessment that is nine months late and theirs is yet to come.
