I WOULD like to appeal to the Provincial Education Director for Matabeleland North or the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education to address the situation at Chezhou Primary School in Dete rural whereby the acting headmaster of the school has been given bail by a Hwange magistrate court on allegations of sexual assault on a Grade Seven pupil, is being allowed to be at the school premises. This is a concern for the affected girl child as she has to bear seeing him on a daily basis. Hwange District Schools inspector is aware of the court case and sexual allegations against the acting headmaster yet allows the head to be present at the school on a daily basis. Key witnesses are pupils from the school. It’s a totally unacceptable situation whereby interference with the witness is most likely to happen. The community is totally surprised why Hwange Ministry of Education officers haven’t told the headmaster not to be at the school until the case is finalised. They feel this is a colleague protectionist ploy as earlier on in June, village heads had written to the District Schools Inspector requesting clarification on certain issues only for the district schools inspector to cover up the issue by dumping the letter with the headmaster to protect their friend. One wonders whether the District Schools Inspector takes child sexual abuse seriously. — Worried Parent

I AM a Highlanders supporter. My blood is black and white but I am not happy about the Highlanders and Chicken Inn result. I am not celebrating our win because we should have allowed Chicken Inn to close the gap between them and DeMbare like what Harare City did so that we have the Premier Soccer League championship coming to Bulawayo. — Happy Kateguru

IN recent times I have seen former soccer greats flocking here but is there anything that we have gained or stand to gain soccer-wise or as a country? I really want to know. — Soccer Fan
