SPORTS Leaders Institute of Zimbabwe (Sliz) in conjunction with America’s West Virginia University will hold a sports management seminar in Harare later this month.

The management seminar will be held at Zesa Training Centre from October 25-27.

Russell Mhiribidi, Sliz director said the seminar is part of the many that they plan to hold with the American institute.

“This is more of a refresher course for administrators to keep up with the changing trends that affect the sports industry. The topic for the programme is ‘Globalisation of sport management as an academic subject, a science based approach to managing sport in Zimbabwe’.

“All serious sport managers and leaders should attend. We are looking forward to having sports reporters, teachers, directors, Premier Soccer League clubs like Highlanders, Dynamos, Caps United and Chicken Inn among others.

“We also hope Zifa and other sports associations, sport medicine people, local authorities, universities and the Sports and Recreation Commission will attend as well,” said Mhiribidi.

The course facilitator will be Professor Dennis Jones from USA.

Mhiribidi said registration for the programme has opened and they have set the course fee at $150.

Sliz has been holding sports management camps since 2014. The camps have been used as platforms for administrators to brainstorm and come up with solutions to challenges faced in the development of athletes.

They have also been using the camps to preach the gospel of good governance in sport with the view of helping administrators unlock potential partnerships with the corporate world.
