- Prince Sunduzani

MOULDING boys to become men who are responsible, respectful and great achievers is what Mzingwane High School has been doing for years. The school is also known for its outstanding results that continue improving over the years.

Mzingwane High School is one of the oldest high schools in the country and great men have come out of the school and have excelled in different fields.

The learning institution has always been among the best in the province going years back.

It continues to assert its dominance, making it a school of choice for many parents.

An analysis of the results in recent years shows why Mzingwane High School continues to be a school of choice in Zimbabwe attracting students from all over the country.

In 2014 the school’s A-Level results broke a 13-yearold school record by reaching the 97,8 percent pass rate.

The results continue to improve and last year the school’s best student, Link Moyo had 19 points in four science subjects.

The headmaster, Mr Moraka Magaya said the good results were reflective of the commitment and hard work from the both the staff and the students.

“The good results are a sign of collective effort and team work at the school. If we were not committed we would not have been able to keep this school’s reputation as the best.

I would like to commend students who excelled in last year’s exams. Moyo Link attained 19 points and was our highest, Kenneth Tshuma had 15 points from three subjects, Assistence Ngwenya had 14, Marquis Chitiyo, Lawazilwenkosi Mpofu, Tinotenda Samkange, Mbongeni Siwela had 13 points Mhlanga Mckringle had 16 points and lastly Alphanet Moyo with 13 points,” said Mr Magaya.

In last year’s Ordinary Level results there were five students with five As and above: Amon Mayoyo with 10 As, Cyril Mupfururiwa had 7 As, Darlington Sibanda and Dhaka Tadiwa had six As and Siziba Rodney had 5As.

Students and parents alike are very happy about a well-balanced education system at Mzingwane High School which has seen students excelling in both academic and non-academic activities.

In sport, the school often reaches the nationals, proving that it is a giant both in academic and sporting activities.

The Mzingwane High school under 16 soccer team left a mark at Copa Coca Cola competitions last year as they conquered the province and represented Matabeleland South at the national stage.

“We have been doing well in sports, we have had athletes called up for nationals and bringing medals. We have Clinton Munga a gold medallist in 100 metres. We have a boy who came second in the national darts competitions. In debate and public speaking, the school is a powerhouse as the senior debate team proceeded to the nationals and represented the province,” said the headmaster. He said the school was a powerhouse in debate and public speaking as the teachers responsible ensure that students become good speakers.

Mr Magaya said the school was on course as far as the new curriculum is concerned, despite having difficulties in acquiring some resources.

“We are on the right track when it comes to implementing the new curriculum. We embraced it and are in the process of making sure that we have enough resources in terms of textbooks and other supporting equipment,” he said.

The school has also embarked on a number of projects to improve and renovate the existing infrastructure.

They managed to rebuild a library that was gutted by fire. The school head said they were almost done with the rebuilding exercise and were in the process of acquiring books, with the library expected to reopen next year.

Also, they have installed white boards in all the school’s classrooms and will by the end of this year purchase projectors for all departments to improve teaching and learning at the school

Mr Magaya projected a bright future at the school saying Mzingwane will be one of the best schools in the country in years to come.
