Phiri’s death a blow to Zim’s football

-

EDITOR — It is very sad to learn about the death of former great Caps United, Warriors winger and coach Friday “Amayenge” Phiri. His death, coincidentally, came on a day which was his first name.

It was a deep and a sudden blow to the football fraternity to lose such a talented, cool and calm character who graced the domestic football scene.

During his heydays, he played to the finest midfield combination of Stanford “Stix” Mtizwa and the late Joel “Jubilee” Shambo, which was rated the finest ever in postindependence Zimbabwe.

In featuring in the best midfield combination team of the 80s Makepekepe, certainly I learnt one or two techniques which I wanted to impart to the modern soccer game to improve and develop it. The techniques are going to further develop our game of football. May his soul rest in peace. May the Lord comfort and strengthen the family and the Zimbabwe soccer fraternity during these trying times. Phiri was one those who entertained people when Zimbabwe soccer was at its peak. His contributions qualifies him to being one of heroes of Zimbabwe soccer, whom both Zifa and PSL should honour. Go well my brother. Lovemore Kashawo, Harare. OUR Chevrons against Windies need to up their game especially on batting as it is lacking consistency. — Lovemore Kashawo, Harare.

GENERALLY albinos are beautiful and normal people. Those who use skin lightening creams are the abnormal and ugly ones because they are trying to seek fake beauty. — Judas Njube.

Response to “Zim, Uruguay seek to boost ties” WE should import beef from Uruguay and export tobacco to them — then we are all winners. — @ Nelsonmoyo

*** COMRADE Mzembi has found a new business partner for us Zimbabweans that we never knew existed before. This young man is a genius. — @NM.

Response to “Exercise restraint ahead of polls” ZIMBABWE is very, very fortunate to have leaders who are of Christian background, who proclaim the word of God. Teaching of humanised moralistic values of love, tolerance, helping the poor — it is the greatest gift that this country has ever enjoyed. — The observer.

WELL said VP If all people in leadership could start telling people about the need to vote in peace and tranquillity, the world would be a better place. — Gamba renyika.
