Swimming gala at Bulawayo City Pool

- Innocent Kurira, Sports Reporter

TOP city swimmers are expected at the Bulawayo City Pool for the Matabeleland Amateur League Swimming Gala that starts tomorrow.

The swimmers are from local clubs; Petra Swimming Academy, Zambezi Tigers, Barracudas, Falcon, Crusaders, School of Swimming, Dolphins and Penguins.

Matabeleland Swimming Board press and liaison officer Thomas Werrett said they expect a competitive gala as swimmers will be preparing for the Matabeleland Senior Championships scheduled for November 13-19.

“Swimmers have been training hard and we expect to have a very competitive event. This will be a chance for the swimmers to get into shape ahead of the Matabeleland Senior Championships next week. This is the time for every swimmer in the province to impress and perform at their best and make a name for themselves,” said Werrett.

“There has been an improvement in the performance of our swimmers. We expect better times and records to be broken. It’s going to be tough though because the swimmers may be saving themselves for the Matabeleland Senior Championships next week, but either way we expect to see records tumbling,” he said.

Swimmers will battle it out in the 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 200m freestyle. — @innocentskizoe.
