Zodwa scraps Zim tour at 11th hour

- Bongani Ndlovu Showbiz Correspondent

SOUTH African socialite Zodwa Wabantu yesterday cancelled her three-day Zimbabwe tour at the 11th hour without giving reasons.

Zodwa Wabantu was supposed to grace Private Lounge in Harare today, Club 263 in Mutare tomorrow and finally Club Connect in Bulawayo on Sunday. Her cancellation comes after she postponed her Bulawayo show that was supposed to be held yesterday.

The South African entertainer stirred controversy two months ago after she was barred from attending the Harare International Carnival as her act was deemed indecent. This might be the reason why Zodwa cancelled her latest tour.

According to the organiser of her visit to Zimbabwe, Biggie Chinoperekwei, Zodwa Wabantu did not give any reason for the cancellation.

He said everything was in order in terms of being cleared by the relevant authorities and all that was left was for Zodwa to land in Zimbabwe.

“Our papers were ready and everything including her air tickets, accommodation and refreshments was set. We did everything we could to make sure she comes and is comfortable. She has decided not to come for her own reasons and there is nothing we can do. We can’t force her to come if she does not feel like coming,” said a disappointed Chinoperekwei.

He said Zodwa’s three-day national tour was organised because of the interest in her from the people of Zimbabwe.

“We were hosting Zodwa not because we love her but because a lot of our clients like her. She has a lot of support and every day we receive calls from people inquiring about her,” said Chinoperekwei.

Zodwa Wabantu was in the United Kingdom with fellow South African DJ Bongz over the past weekend.
