A NEW online music platform, HabeSound, has partnered the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (Zimura) to hold a workshop for musicians in order to train them to make use of online streaming and sales for them to realise much needed revenue.

The workshop will be held in Bulawayo at Cillars Conference Centre on Saturday with registration already underway at the Zimura offices.

One of the directors of HabeSound, Vicky Phiri-Ngono, said the workshop was for anyone who was interested in music as they want to help local artistes make money from digital music sales.

“We want to let our local artistes know about the streaming application. It’ll expose them more to their specific target market and this will lead to an increase in their royalties and remunerations while also exposing them to the African community,” said Phiri-Ngono.

She said they were grateful to Zimura for helping them organise the workshop.

“Zimura has been instrumental in mobilising the artistes and helping us craft an application that will help develop the local music industry,” said Phiri-Ngono.

She said after the workshop, they will launch a mobile app on November 25.

According to the IFPI Global Music Report, digital revenues worldwide grew by 17.7% to US$7.8 billion, driven by a sharp 60.4% growth in streaming revenue – the largest growth in eight years.
