Mudzingwa praises players

BULAWAYO provincial baseball coach Eldon Mudzingwa praised his players for edging Harare 2-1 in a three-match series played at Hamilton High School at the weekend.

It was the perfect revenge for Bulawayo, who suffered a three-match whitewash to Harare in October. The hosts were a vastly improved side at the weekend.

They were quick off the blocks in the series, winning the first game 16-2 to gain an early advantage. The visitors responded by sailing to a 17-4 victory in the second game.

Bulawayo upped the gear in the decider and cruised to a comfortable 17-2 win to lift the series 2-1.

“We are happy with our performance; we really needed this victory and we managed to win in front of our fans, which is a great feeling.

“These games gave us the chance to observe those areas that we need to work on and we believe we have learnt a number of valuable lessons,” said Mudzingwa.

“Langton Zhuwawo shone as our pitcher and the improved batting performances from Brandon Majobo and Given Chimba were pivotal to the team’s impressive showing. Also, reliable captain Shepherd Sibanda was at his level best,” Mudzingwa said.

The next assignment for the Bulawayo provincial team is the annual Dream Cup tournament to be held in Masvingo in the first weekend of December where all baseball playing provinces will meet. — @ innocentskizoe
