- Sukoluhle Ndlovu Midlands Correspondent

TWO armed robbers from Zvishavane yesterday appeared in court for allegedly stabbing a woman to death after robbing her of a 25c bond coin and a bottle of purified water.

Wellington Maphosa (25) and Hosea Vengesai (33) went on to strip Ms Varaidzo Sibanda leaving her naked body lying in a pool of blood.

They were not asked to plead when they appeared before Zvishavane Magistrate Mr Shepherd Munjanja and were remanded in custody to Thursday next week.

Mr Munjanja advised them to apply for bail at the High Court.

For the State, Mr Stanley Ncube told the court that on December 9, 2017 and around midday, Ms Sibanda was walking along a footpath on her way to the city centre from Highlands Suburb.

The court heard that Ms Sibanda met Maphosa and Vengesai who emerged from the bush.

One of the accused produced a knife before they demanded cash from Ms Sibanda.

She told them that she only had 25c bond coin and a bottle of water which they demanded.

One of the accused stabbed Ms Sibanda once on the left side of her breast and in the back before they took the money and water.

She collapsed and the two stripped her leaving her lying in a pool of blood.

Ms Sibanda was discovered by a passerby and was rushed to the hospital where she died on admission.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the suspects.
