‘Bosso brand must be maintained’

- Sikhumbuzo Moyo

ZIMBABWE Electoral Commission (Zec) commissioner Qhubani Moyo has called for a generational renewal in the Highlanders’ governance structures for Bosso to maintain its gigantic status. Speaking at a low key end of year dinner the club held to honour an and bid farewell to its principal sponsors BancABC BancAB in Bulawayo on Wednesday night, Moy Moyo, who was the guest of honour, said it w was important that the Highlanders bran brand was passed onto the next generation by putting up systems that will enable it to be sustainable in future. “Let’s make sure we are able to ke keep it well, so that we are able to pass it o on for generations to come. Whether w we are leading it, supporting it or playing playin for it, it is important for us to know th that we are doing it, not just for ourselves, b but for other generations to come. Le Let’s make sure we keep it inta intact. For us to be able to ma make sure that the brand is passed onto oth other generations, it is key that we w put together togeth systems system that enable it to be sustainable and key among this is how we fundraise to sustain the brand,” Moyo said.

He said it was important to note that BancABC had managed to associate with Highlanders over the years even when the banking institution could have chosen to turn its back on them. He also urged the club not to allow itself to be pulled back by misfortunes of the past season which saw them ending the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in position six on the table.

“Highlanders is a brand and we don’t need to look at this year’s performance and give up, but we need to look at it as warriors and know that we lost a battle, but we still have to regroup and win the war. By finishing sixth this year, it doesn’t mean Highlanders has become a small team; the club remains a giant and it has always been for generations and therefore we need to put it in its rightful position,” said Moyo.

Apart from finishing sixth, the club also failed to provide a single player for the Soccer Stars of the Year finalists, a first in modern day Premiership football.

In two months’ time, its members will meet to elect a substantive executive chairman as well as a secretary-general and committee member.

Businessman and retired army officer Kenneth Mhlophe has announced that he will run for the chairmanship post, while administrator Nkululeko Ndlovu has also expressed his desire to run for the secretary general’s post currently held by Emmett Ndlovu, who is unlikely to seek re-election.

Heart and Soul chairman Peacot Hadebe is eyeing the committee member’s post held by Wisdom Mabhena.
