BULAWAYO, Monday, December 25, 1967 — IN HIS Christmas message to Bulawayo, the Mayor, Clr W R Kinleyside, appeals to all to forget differences and misunderstandings for the sake of the country.

He says: “My wife and I have much pleasure in wishing all citizens of Bulawayo and the surrounding districts a very happy and trouble-free Christmas.

“For children Christmas is a time of joy and means presents and parties, and we hope that it will be possible for them all to enjoy those things this year and for many years to come.

“And to those who are old enough we would express the hope that they will appreciate what Christmas really means and so spare a few moments to say a short prayer for those who are not so fortunate.

“To the older children, Christmas is similar but also has a more serious meaning.

“It is a time to think and pray for the sick and the lonely, and for the families which for one reason and another cannot be together at this time, and we hope that in some way the blessings of Christmas may be brought to them.

“This is a time to forget differences and misunderstandings and to strive for peace, harmony and happiness between all races, so that our country can move forward to greatness.

“We are sure that consideration and sympathy towards others will solve many problems.

“My wife and I would like to thank and congratulate all the Bulawayo people for the really wonderful spirit they have shown over the past few weeks, starting with the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund and the various Christmas entertainments in the park and the various halls and theatres.”
