BULAWAYO, Wednesday, December 30, 1992 — The festive spirit has landed a South African tourist in hospital after he fell out of a fast moving bus as he tried to relieve himself through a window.

Mr Graham Evans (19), almost lost his ear when he fell out of a Harare bound Express Motorways bus on Monday night after the bus had just passed Esigodini on its way from Johannesburg.

He was rushed to Bulawayo Central Hospital by a couple in a car which happened to be passing at the time of the accident.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Mr Evans, who lives in Johannesburg, said he had made friends with some people on the bus and they had “a couple of beers”.

He said unlike the Translux bus which took the passengers from Johannesburg to the border, the Express bus had no toilet and since it did not have many stops, the driver had agreed on one occasion to stop so that passengers could relieve themselves, said Mr Evans.

He said he had leaned against one of the back windows as he tried to relieve himself. The window fell out with him and the next thing he could remember was waking up in hospital in pain.

A passenger who was on the bus with Mr Evans said after he had fallen the bus travelled for about two kilometres before the driver realised what had happened.
