BCC set to resurface White City soccer pitch
CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League action could return to White City Stadium this coming season after the Bulawayo City Council revealed that they are set to resurface the venue’s soccer pitch to meet international standards.
The BCC, through the department of housing and community services, have placed the resurfacing of the soccer pitch at stadia as top priority in 2018, according to the latest council minutes.
The Zifa grounds committee condemned the pitch ahead of the 2017 season leading to the venue missing out on top-flight action.
A Cosafa delegation led by secretary-general Sue Destombes condemned the pitch as a complete right-off ahead of the women’s championships last year.
Although White City was renovated ahead of the African Union Sports Council Region V Youth Games in 2014, there was a large outcry about the uneven terrain of the pitch. The 2014 refurbishment saw tartan track, stateof-the-art electronic timing devices, a VIP area, media centre, new changing rooms and a giant monitor being installed in revamping of the stadium, which had become decrepit.
However, contractors of the stadium failed to meet the deadline for completion leaving the stadia short of meeting international standards.
Tsholotsho FC last used White City as their home ground for the 2016 season after they had successfully applied to the City Council for the use of the venue.
