Ministry focuses on ease of doing business in 100-day target
GOVERNMENT is expediting ways to improve the ease of doing business by amending and upgrading systems in its various departments to create an investor friendly environment in its 100-day plan.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi said the Indigenisation Act, Companies Bill and Intellectual Property Development were key focus areas in his ministry’s 100-day target.
“Our ministry lies in the social services sector and we are largely a support ministry that creates an enabling environment for various ministries to do their work.
“You have to realise that our main thrusts are to ensure that there is rule of law, justice and ease of doing business. Within the next 100 days, one of the things that we want pertains to companies and intellectual property development,” said Minister Ziyambi.
He said they were expediting work on the system application on companies profile and title deeds to make them easily accessible online.
“As you may be aware we have a systems application and product data processing platforms and what this platform does is that we load the title deeds into it and all the information about deeds registry.
“What we want to do within the next 100 days is in terms of ease of doing business, we want to ensure that all the information pertaining to companies is uploaded into this platform,” said the minister.
He said the move would ensure that one can access the deeds registry from anywhere and search a property to find out whether the person purporting to be the owner is really the owner online. This is expected to reduce corruption.
“You see people had to travel to the deeds registry to request for a search and public access would be from anywhere in the world.
“And it will cause stimulation of foreign and local investment due to efficiency and availability of information and this is one of the things that we intend to do in terms of Ziyambi.
He said they were also looking forward to finalising amendments to the Companies Act with a Bill set to be presented to Parliament for consideration soon.
“We feel it needs to reduce bureaucracy to ensure that registration of companies is user friendly and very easy and ensure that there is good protection of shareholders.
“All these we want to improve in the Companies Bill to ensure that it is up to international best practices according to modern day standards,” said Minister Ziyambi.
“We are going to amend the Indigenisation Act to make it more user friendly and investor friendly.” — @ AuxiliaK that,” said Minister
