SMS/WhatsApp Zifa must tackle drug addiction

-

EDITOR — There are far too many similarities between Dynamos Football Club star Denver Mukamba and Argentina’s former star Diego Maradona as far as both talent and the love for drugs go.

The two football heroes could have reached the highest stage of football greatness had not drug addiction derailed their careers. Denver desperately needs assistance to crush the drug-demons or he will never make it in football.

The dangerous path he is walking has ended many promising players’ potential.

Maradona struggled with a 20-year cocaine addiction leading to three suspensions and multiple failed drug tests during his career.

He eventually failed, at the end, to fight the addiction demons. For Denver, drug addiction hasn’t helped in anyway.

Our local football clubs need to put aside their differences and help players like Denver.

Local clubs can launch a foundation to rehabilitate players who have drug problems. With such help, maybe one day Mukamba can recover and make a comeback. WHILE there is talk of corruption at VID, I feel the whole requirement of re-testing professional drivers is CORRUPTION at worst. After one has been practising competently in his profession for five years why should he/she be required to sit that exam again? Should we say after every five years teachers, nurses, the police, VID officers etc. must all re-write the exams that ushered them into their current professions? If not, why then only with drivers: just because they are easy milking cows for bribes and corruption. Rather authorities should encourage continuous driver training programmes such as Defensive Driving, Advanced Motoring, seminars etc. These will help equip the driver with current developments on the road. As for the kombi driver menace the problem is that most of the owners are a law unto themselves and will not let the left hand correct the right. — Mashayamombe, Hwange.
